did you ever dream about being a newspaper critic? You know, reporters assigned to go undercover and report back about restaurants, new movies, and even far away vacation spots.

It's easy to understand why... while investigating a mystery shopper job opportunity, it struck me as merely a repackaged work at home opportunity in disguise.

Rules to follow and warning when searching for home jobs

When searching and applying for telecommuting positions (home jobs) you should use the following precautions:

Rule #1: Never pay to apply for a job or to show "you're serious".

Important Note: this is different than paying for a legitimate jobs database which is OK (see the following explanation for details)...

Do you need to pay for a jobs database? No. But if you are a person who is new to searching for home jobs or has searched for ones without success, a paid database can play several important roles:

1. It can free up part of your own job search time.
2. It can show you types of work that you have skills for that you may never hear of otherwise.
3. It can show you what real home job listings look like. This can be a huge help to prevent you from falling for scams.
4. It can help you find much better words to use when doing your own job searches.

In other words, besides helping you find a home job, a legitimate home jobs database can be an amazing educational tool to help you become a smart job searcher. A legitimate home jobs database uses experienced researchers to find their positions. So, checking their listings against the types you find on your own can be a huge eye-opener. The value of this should not be underestimated.

There's a major difference between paying for a job (Not OK) and paying to access a legitimate database of job listings (OK). If you have any questions about this, feel free to contact me using the contact links listed throughout the site.

Be cautious about calling unfamiliar area codes
Some international pay-per-call area codes look like legitimate U.S. area codes and employment scammers will use that to get you to call a number that you unwittingly get charged for.

Before you return a phone call from an employer with an unfamiliar area code, you might check it against this list of Carribbean area codes...

You can check what geographic area an area code belongs to at Fonefinder. You can also check your telephone directory or call the operator to determine if the area code is for a domestic or international location before calling.

Never allow a company to deposit a check into your account to "test or process the check".
In this scheme, generally the scammer will tell you to deposit the check, keep a portion for your services, and then wire the rest back.

You'll soon discover they sent you a fake check, the check will bounce, and you'll be stuck responsible for the full amount, including the money you sent back to the scammer.

Don't give a company your checking account information or social security number until you're comfortable with them.

A major source of fraud today is called "demand draft" fraud.

Here's how it works:

Once you provide the account information, a criminal creates a "demand draft" (i.e. a remotely created check that doesn't require a signature) and withdraw funds from your account -- often without your permission.

They get away with it because demand drafts generally only require the customers typewritten checking account number, a notation that the customer authorized the draft and/or a statement such as the statement "No signature required," "Authorization on file," "Signature on file," or words similar to that effect.

Use extreme caution if you click on advertising at even the most legitimate sites.
Many of the best sites don't have much control over many of the ads that display on their sites. Even when the site seems legitimate, it doesn't mean the ads lead to legitimate products and services, too.

Limit the amount of personal information you give when first applying for a job
If you know that a job is obviously legitimate, then this wouldn't apply. However, if you're unsure at all, then you should only include your first name and email address. Once you become more familiar and comfortable with the company you can reveal further information. Always check the Work From Home Scams page for the latest information on scam scenarios.

Google Cash has been on of the simplest, most powerful methods for making money online for several years now.

I'm going to start off with a couple amazing success stories to show how powerful the Google Cash method can be.

But unfortunately I have some bad news I must share with you after you read the success stories.

Google Cash success stories

I personally know a man who bought Google Cash and a $67 software program Google Cash recommends who consistently made $1,000 net profit for several months - without a website. At the time of this writing he was still making that kind of money.

And the amazing thing is he was fairly new to online marketing (you see most of the big success stories you read about are from people who are already experienced marketers).

Another reputable source told me of a fellow who has made ten million dollars with a similar method - again without a website. Now I don't know if that's net profit or gross. And of course to make that kind of money, you have to have quit a few people you pay to help you out.

It's important to understand that these success stories are exceptional examples beyond what the average user of the Google Cash method would do. But they do show how powerful the Google Cash method has been.

The bad news...

Unfortunately, it's more difficult to get Google Cash to work without having your own website nowadays. Possible? Yes. But more difficult.

The one big plus Google Cash still has is that it lets you in on how many of the top-earning affiliate marketers think. You're very unlikely to find this kind of information amongst the thousands of worthless ebooks that are being sold online today.

The only place you're likely find this kind of information now is in fairly pricey membership sites (I belong to one that's $97/month and I've seen others that are over $4,000/year).

And if you're a beginner, you should not spend that kind of money on learning internet marketing, no matter what some high-pressure, "do it now" salesperson tries to tell you.

IMPORTANT UPDATE as of 7/12/2007...I am finally ready to recommend GoogleCash once more...with one caution:

NOTE: If you are new to internet marketing, then Google Cash is probably not the best way to get started. If you are a beginner, you'll likely be better of using our "Bootstrapping Your Business" plan.

I had temporarily suspended my recommendation of GoogleCash because at the end of 2006 Google introduced some new rules that could make it much harder to succeed with this system.

However, I mentioned then that If the authors update the book (you get free updates when you buy the book), then all could be fine.

And, in fact, several months after the Google update the authors did in fact update the book to make it current.

This means that the meat of the old review is now relevant once again...

Google Cash changed my life -- really...

... This is the basis of my home business that allows me to work from home and support my wife and two kids.

Let's just say that I love this business and I really think you will too. I run my office out of the second story of my house and barely even drive our second car anymore since my trip to work consists of "going upstairs" (yes, I do still tell my kids that "Daddy's going to work now"). Featured websites in the ebook are linked directly to other URLs in just a click... no need to copy and paste. While this seems like a small benefit, I'm always surprised how few ebooks invest the time and effort to make linking to webpages easy and convenient.

Easy to print
If you've ever ordered home study course, you know most are "locked." The good news is the current version of GoogleCash is unlocked... allowing you to print each, any, or all of the pages for easier reading.

Real examples with step by step details
It's rare to find someone who's willing to show actual examples of profitable ideas that are made available to the public. It's easy to understand why... once the idea is out there, it's no longer a secret -- quickly creating a rush of new competitors.

But Mr. Carpenter reveals exactly how he placed tiny classified ads at Google.com and redirected their visitors to high paying affiliate programs -- getting paid with PayPal within two weeks (sometimes even within 24 hours).

Includes the WOW factor
I'd like to think I know a lot about the GoogleCash system. I put the system into action and as a result quit my full-time job while make money working from home.

And as an internet marketing junkie, I thought I've seen it all...

... But every time I open GoogleCash, I'm always amazed with how easy it is to pickup -- yet stuffed with free onlines sources I've never heard of before.

Cons

Title is a bit misleading
Yes it's true... this home study course is named GoogleCash, but don't let the name fool you -- the strategies and methods revealed also work with similar sites like Yahoo and AOL.

Information gets stale quickly
The moment any home study course is published, its content grows old and outdated... and this is especially true of GoogleCash. As I review this, I'm guessing more than 15% of the ideas, strategies, and sources are either irrelevant or no longer exist...

... But I don't blame the author -- because in the Internet world, things change rapidly.

It would be helpful to be able to download an updated GoogleCash from time to time.

The good news is GoogleCash includes access to a frequently updated "Resources" section hosted on the author's Website. And when I checked, I found it was updated within the last 52 days -- that's reasonable.

Update: There was a section here at one point complaining that the email support was week. However, there's evidence to suggest this may not be true any longer. I've heard that Chris Carpenter has become much more active in his business again and keeping everything up to date. However, if you find out otherwise, please let me know.

Update to update: This is somewhat interesting. While, the support for the Google Cash private mentoring forum "AdwordMentor" -- an low-cost monthly membership site -- is second to none (I actually helped moderate that forum for over a year), there seems to have been quite a few complaints about the Google Cash Detective software support (you can see an example here: Google Cash Detective complaints. So the takeaway here is that since each of Chris Carpenter's products have different support mechanisms, you can't judge the support of one based on the support from another. The good thing is if you hate GoogleCash it's easy to refund it through ClickBank.

2/5/2008 Update on customer service for Google Cash: I've started receiving complaints once again about poor customer service from Google Cash. This is especially important if your decision on investing in Google Cash is driven by the promise of personal help on the sales page.

Snapshots are sometimes tiny
One particular screenshot of how Mr. Carpenter banked $638.05 (in just 2 days) was accompanied by the proof with a small screenshot on the bottom of page 27. It would be great if we could click on the picture and see a larger screenshot (hint to author)... let's cross our fingers.

Part I: What is the Forex Market and How is it Different?

What is Forex?

The foreign exchange market, often referred to as forex, is the market for the various currencies of the world. It is a market which, at its core, is rooted in global trade. Goods and services are exchanged 24 hours a day all over the world. Those transactions done across national borders require payments in non-domestic currencies.

For example, a US company purchases widgets from a Mexican company. To do the transaction, one of two things is going to happen. The US firm may, depending on the contract terms, make payment in Mexican Pesos. That would require a conversion of Dollars in to Pesos to make payment. Alternately, the payment could be made in Dollars, in which case the Mexican company would then exchange the Dollars for Pesos on their end. Either way, there is going to be some transaction which takes Dollars and swaps them for Pesos.

That is where the forex market comes in. Transactions like that take place all the time. The market maintains a rate of exchange between the US Dollar and the Mexican Peso (and between and amongst all other world currencies) to facilitate that activity. Consider the amount of global trade which takes place and you can see why the forex market is the biggest in the world, dwarfing all others. Literally trillions of dollars worth of forex transactions take place each and every day.

How is the Forex Market Different?

There are some significant differences between the forex market and others like the stock market. While it may be the feeling that a good trader should be able to handle any market, the fact of the matter is that some structural differences in forex can require a different trading approach.

Time
For most stock traders, the first difference they will notice between the forex market and equities is timeframe. Although the hours of stock trading have been expanding in recent years, the forex market is still the only one which can truly be viewed as 24-hour. There is ready forex trading activity in all time zones during the week, and sometimes even on the weekends as well. Other markets may in fact transact 24-hours, but the volume outside their primary trading day is thin and inconsistent.

No Exchanges
The lack of an exchange is probably the next big thing that sticks out as being different in forex. While it is true that there is exchange-based forex trading in the form of futures, the primary trading takes place over-the-counter via the spot market. There is no NYSE of forex.

On the largest scale, forex transactions are done in what is referred to as the inter-bank market. That literally means banks trading with each other on behalf of their customers. Larger speculators also operate in the inter-bank market where they can execute multi-million dollar trades with ease. Individual traders, who generally trade in much smaller sizes, primarily do so through brokers and dealers.

This is something which can trouble stock traders. There is no central location for price data, and no real volume information is attainable. Since volume is an often reported figure in the stock market, the lack of it in spot forex trading is something which takes a bit of getting used to for those making the switch.

Transaction Processing
Also, the lack of an exchange means a difference in how trading is actually done. In the stock market an order is submitted to a broker who facilitates the trade with another broker/dealer (over-the-counter) or through an exchange. In spot forex much of the trading done by individuals is actually executed directly with their broker/dealer. That means the broker takes the other side of the trade. This is not always the case, but is the most common approach.

Transaction Costs
The lack of an exchange and the direct trade with the broker creates another difference between stock and forex trading. In the stock market brokers will generally charge a commission for each buy and sell transaction you do. In forex, though, most brokers do not charge any commissions. Since they are taking the other side of all the customer trades, they profit by making the spread between the bid and offer prices.

Some traders do not like the structure of the spot forex market. They are not comfortable with their broker being on the other side of their trades as they feel it presents a type of conflict of interest. They also question the safety of their funds and the lack of overall regulation. There are some worthwhile concerns, certainly, but the fact of the matter is that the majority of forex brokers are very reliable and ethical. Those that are not don't stay in business very long.

Margin Trading
The forex market is a 100% margin-based market. This is a familiar thing for those used to trading futures.

In fact, spot forex trading is essentially trading a 2-day forward (futures) contract. You do not take actual possession of any currency, but rather have a theoretical agreement to do so in the future. That puts you in a position of benefiting from prices changes. For that your broker requires a deposit on your trades to provide surety against any losses you may incur. How much of a deposit can vary. Some brokers will asked for as little as 1/2%. That is fairly aggressive, though. Expect 1%-2% on the value of the position in most cases.

Now, unlike the stock market, margin trading does not mean margin loans. Your broker will not be lending you money to buy securities (at least not the way a stock broker does). As such, there is no margin interest charged. In fact, since you are the one putting money on deposit with your broker, you may earn interest in your margin funds.

Interest Rate Carry (Rollover)
When trading forex, one is essentially borrowing one currency, converting it in to another, and depositing it. This is all done on an overnight basis, so the trader is paying the overnight interest rate on the borrowed currency and at the same time earning the overnight rate on the currency being held. This means the trader is either paying out or receiving interest on their position, depending on whether the interest rate differential is for or against them.

This is commonly handled is what is referred to as a rollover. Spot forex trades are done on a trading day basis, and as such are technically closed out at the end of each day. If you are holding your position longer than that, your broker rolls you forward in to a new position for the next trading day. This is generally done transparently, but it does mean that at the end of each day you will either pay or receive the interest differential on your position.

The type of trader you are and the way your broker handles rollover will be the deciding factors in determining whether the interest rate differentials are an important concern for you. Some brokers will not apply the day's interest differential value on positions closed out during the trading day. By that I mean if you were to enter a position at 10am and exit at 2pm, no interest would come in to play. If you were to open a position on Monday and close it on Tuesday, though, you would have the interest for Monday applied (the full day regardless of when you entered the position), but nothing for Tuesday. (Note: There is at least one broker who calculates interest on a continuous basis, so you will always make or pay the interest differential on all positions, no matter when you put them on or took them off).

It should also be noted that although some folks will claim there is no rollover in forex futures, the interest rate spread is definitely factored in. You can see this when comparing the futures prices with the spot market rates. As the futures contracts approach their delivery date their prices will converge with the spot rate so that the holders will pay or receive the differential just as if they had been in a spot position.

Intervention
Fixed income traders know that central bankers, like the Federal Reserve, are active in the markets, buying and selling securities to influence prices, and thereby interest rates. This is not something which happens in stocks, but it does in the forex markets. This is known as intervention. It happens when a central bank or other national monetary authority buys or sells currency in the market with the objective of influencing exchange rates.

Intervention is most often seen at times when exchange rates get a bit out of hand, either falling or rising too rapidly. At those times, central banks may step in to try to nullify the trend. Sometimes it works. Sometimes not.

The US has traditionally taken a hands-off approach when it comes to the value of the Dollar, preferring to allow the markets to do their thing. Others are not quite so willing to let speculators determine their currency's value. The Bank of Japan has the most active track record in that regard.

Google AdSense is a new, fast and easy way for small and medium sites to make money free online by displaying relevant, text-based, un-obtrusive ads from Google AdWords (Google's own advertising program) and receiving a share of the pay-per-click payment.

Because the ads are related to what your users are looking for on your site, the results can be much better than you'd earn from banner networks and many affiliate programs.

For now, AdSense is the best way to make money free online from informational sites even if there are no obvious related affiliate programs. But you don't need to disregard affiliate programs. You can combine both these ways to make money free online and double your income.

AdSense is easy to join, it doesn't cost you anything, all you have to do is paste a few lines of code into your pages, and Google does the work of finding the best ads for them from hundreds of thousands of AdWords advertisers. How to get started

• Sign up for AdSense.
• Fill in the application form and confirm an email that Google will send you. If you own several sites, you need apply only once.
• Google evaluates your site and will follow-up with you via email within 2-3 days (usually within 24 hours). If you're accepted, you'll be able to log in to your AdSense account.
• Log in to your account using the email address and password that you submitted with your application, and agree to the AdSense Terms and Conditions.

How to get the most out of AdSense

There are three obvious ways to increase your income from Google AdSense...

1) Increase traffic
Create more keyword-focused pages. See Building: Site Content: Finding Keywords for more information on finding the most profitable keywords.

2) Increase click-through rate
Use simple design with the AdSense ads displayed prominently. According to Google, ads in the skyscraper format works better (especially on the right side of the page). Focus to only one topic per page - that should make it easier for Google to serve up the more tightly contextual ads which means better click-through.

3) Increase the value of clicks
Of course, you can't do it directly. However, you can find some "expensive" keywords and create pages optimized for them, within your site's theme. These keywords are highly competitive and you'll unlikely get high ranking for them, but visitors will arrive from other "inexpensive" pages and click on Google's ads.
